Nazmi, the Reflection of Reza’s Poetry

Syed Aley Rasool Hasnain Miyan Nazmi belongs to the famous Syed dynasty of Marehra and Bilgram. His ancestors came to India from Iraq via Iran during to the time of Sultan Iltutmish, the famous ruler of the Slave dynasty.

Mir Muhammad Sughra

The Sultan directed Mir Muhammad Sughra to conquer Bilgram and settle over there. Mir Muhammad Sughra was the Mureed and Khalifa of Hazrat Sheikh Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki who was the most favourite disciple of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti of Ajmer. Since Mir Muhammad Sughra was the direct descendent of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam, his family received unrivalled respect from the Indian Muslims. This clan of pious origin gave the nation great personalities like the established historian Allama Ghulam Ali Azad Bilgrami, most honoured musician Mir Nizamuddin Madhu Naik and the most popular Sufi-Saint Hazrat Mir Abdul Wahid Bilgrami.

Mir Nizamuddin Madhu Naik

Mir Nizamuddin Madhu Naik was a music maestro of his time. Tansen, the famous Musician of Akbar’s court personally went to Bilgram to meet the Madhu Naik and get his blessings. It is said that when Tan Sen reached Bilgram, the sun was about to set. He saw some girls filling water from a well. One of them put her pitcher into the well. It created some sound while contacting the water level of the well. The girl peeped into the well and said: “What an untimely raga are you playing? This is not the time of this raga. You should have sung that raga.” Tan Sen wondered as to how a maidservant knows about the ragas and their timings. He asked the girl about the Madhu Naik. She told that she was his maidservant and would take him to her master’s house. Tan Sen met his Guru and remained under his feet for hours seeking his blessings in abundance.
